How To: Maximize SEO Results From a WordPress Blog – A WordCamp San Francisco Presentation

WordPress is known for its SEO benefits when compared to other CMS platforms.  Practically every internet marketer utilizes WordPress for this very reason. That is why I was pleased to see a scheduled SEO presentation at WordCamp San Francisco 2011.

SEO WordCamp San Francisco 2011 Takeaways

Below are a few takeaways I had from Sujan Patel’s presentation at WordCamp San Francisco 2011.

  • The top four positions in the search engines only accounted for 40% of the click-through rates. I recall a few years ago seeing up 55% to 65% of the results coming from the top four positions. Now, this was based on a Slingshot study so the niche or which search engine was tested may have skewed the results.
  • SEO Friendly Images Plugins – He discussed lots of SEO plug-ins but I think this one, of all of them, is utilized the least. Images can direct traffic to a blog so SEO optimize the heck out of videos and images.
  • Google Panda Update is now penalizing websites for the usage of tags when not marked “No Follow”?
  • Social Signals – He showed some great examples of how search results vary depending on how he is logged in and how Google is adjusting rankings based on your social circles. I would also point out that Google ALSO showed in his slides those people in his Google Circles that had marked “+1″ to an article in his results. This is HUGE in my opinion and it shows the direction that Google is going.

The below presentation can definitely help anyone new to SEO. Obviously my above comments are more indicative of recent SEO changes.
